在2017年的10月11号， 加拿大的入籍新政生效， 具体的新政要求如下：居住时间由原来的6年内住满4年（1,460天)，降低到5年内住满3年（1,095天）；Applicants must be physically present in Canada for three out of five years before applying for citizenship.报税记录由原来的6年内有4年报税记录，降低到5年内有3年报税记录；Applicants must file Canadian income taxes, if required to do so under the Income Tax Act, for three out of five years, matching the new physical presence requirement.取消“其中4年内每年至少住满183天”的规定；Applicants had to be physically present in Canada for 183 days in four out of the six years preceding their application.This provision is repealed. Applicants no longer have to meet this requirement.之前在加拿大留学、工作、难民的居住时间可折算50%，最多可折算1年（365天）；Applicants may count each day they were physically present in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person before becoming a permanent resident as a half-day toward meeting the physical presence requirement for citizenship, up to a maximum credit of 365 days.入籍考试和语言要求的年龄由原来的14-64岁，修改为18-54岁（不再要求14-17岁和54岁以上的申请人参加入籍考试，加拿大入籍的语言要求是听和说达到CLB4级）
